Hengameh Roohi, PhD

Licensed Psychologist , PSY24259

I am a licensed clinical psychologist with almost two decades of experience in therapy, evaluations, and risk assessments. I’m trained in neuropsychology and have worked extensively in multicultural mental health clinics and inpatient treatment settings. My work is grounded in the science of how trauma, systemic pressures — whether in family or broader social systems — and misalignment with core values shape brain functioning and psychological adaptation.

I provide therapy for adults with a focus on life transitions, meaning in life, and relationship trauma. I offer services in both English and Farsi, bringing cultural depth and accessibility to my work.

My approach underscores how navigating life transitions reorganizes neural pathways. I integrate evidence-based methods with meaning-centered and neuropsychology-informed perspectives. A central part of my work is helping clients strengthen their brain’s adaptability — the capacity to reorganize, recover, and build new pathways — while reconnecting with their core values and purpose.

My vision of mental health is as an interconnected system. I view psychological work not only as a process of individual adaptation but also as a contribution to the transformation and progress of the broader human community. With this connection to the larger context, mental health rises to its highest purpose.

My approach

My approach underscores how navigating life transitions reorganizes neural pathways. I integrate evidence-based methods with meaning-centered and neuropsychology-informed perspectives. A central part of my work is helping clients strengthen their brain’s adaptability — the capacity to reorganize, recover, and build new pathways — while reconnecting with their core values and purpose.

Why I love this work

I see the mind as a living, evolving system — constantly reshaping itself through experience, reflection, and connection. Yet at times, we encounter inner or outer barriers that disrupt our natural capacity for growth. Therapy, to me, is both a science and an art of transformation: a space where insight reorganizes neural pathways and understanding gives rise to freedom. When we bring awareness to our inner life, we open the possibility for change at both psychological and cellular levels — becoming more coherent, integrated, and alive.

What I want for you

My hope is to help you engage with life from a place of depth and authenticity. Whether you are facing loss, anxiety, or uncertainty, I want to help you rediscover the meaning beneath your challenges and the creative potential within them. Healing, in my view, is not about returning to who you were before pain — but about evolving into someone more whole, conscious, and connected to purpose.

My specialties, background, and personal interests

My work integrates neuropsychology, meaning-centered therapy, and cross-cultural psychology. I specialize in working with adults experiencing anxiety, stress, and life transitions, as well as those navigating identity and belonging in multicultural contexts. I hold a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology with postdoctoral training in Neuropsychology, and my approach integrates evidence-based practice with meaning-centered therapy and an appreciation for the brain’s extraordinary ability to reorganize, heal, and renew itself through insight and intention.

Outside of clinical work, I am drawn to the arts as a form of healing and inquiry. I play the cello and explore expressive forms of writing and poetry — practices that remind me that creativity is not separate from science but an essential rhythm of the mind’s evolution.
