My approach

My approach is integrative as I view problems like the many layers of an onion.

In many situations, the issues are behavioral/thoughts that need to be addressed. I utilize Mindfulness Based Cognitive therapy to address the thoughts and behaviors associated with the anxiety and depression symptoms and work to develop coping strategies.

Through this work, deeper layers sometimes come to the surface as there seems to be something that still needs to be addressed in order for the person to move forward in their life. This may require grief and loss, trauma, or attachment work. At these times, I may utilize narrative elements to explore the client’s life story and the impact this story is having on them in the present.

Together we may delve into their attachments with others in the various systems in their lives. We may also explore their internal dialogs using elements of Internal Family System. Deeper work can take more time but can be very rewarding as the client develops a better understanding of themselves and how their life experiences continue to impact them in the present.

My clients continue to amaze me with their resilience and inner strength. It is such an honor for me to be a part of their healing process.

Why I love this work

Each person has a unique story and a desire to be known. I feel so honored that client’s share these difficult stories with me and I believe that by witnessing their experiences they feel understood and that they matter. Every day I appreciate sharing in my client’s journeys and supporting them as they navigate life’s challenges. This makes me feel like I am making a difference in the world.

What I want for you

My hope for you is that our work will empower you to achieve your goals and enable you to navigate future obstacles.

My specialties, background, and personal interests

In graduate school, my clinical training was focused on children, adolescents, couples, and families as I was very interested in development and how the systems in our lives impact our choices and perspectives. My clients came to therapy with a variety of issues including life cycle transitions, anxiety, depression, and relationship concerns. I completed my post-doctoral studies at Catholic Charities of Denver where I was able to incorporate spirituality in therapy. My clients ranged in age from 3 – 80 years old and I worked with individuals, couples, and families. It was a wonderful opportunity to work with people from diverse backgrounds. I have also studied attachment family therapy and I am currently working on Internal Family Systems.
