My approach

I tailor my approach to each individual’s unique circumstances and needs. I practice using evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), DBT, ACT, TF-CBT, Motivational Interviewing, and Mindfulness. I also like to draw on my clients’ strengths as well as use humor when appropriate in our sessions. Humor can be a powerful tool for coping and dealing with difficult topics. A key foundation of my work involves being honest and authentic in sessions.

Why I love this work

I enjoy connecting with people, helping them actively work on their struggles, and ultimately seeing my clients achieve successes and make meaningful gains in their wellbeing.

What I want for you

I want to create a safe, open, and honest space for my clients to begin exploring and making progress on their issues and goals. It’s my hope that you feel comfortable in our sessions quickly so that we can work together to understand and handle your distress, stress, and make positive improvements in your life.

My specialties, background, and personal interests

I’ve worked with adolescents, young adults, and adults from a variety of cultural and ethnic backgrounds and in a variety of settings. I see many people dealing with stress, anxiety and depression, and I specialize in life transitions and adjustment, including experiences such as adjusting to a new job, beginning college, becoming a new parent or transitioning to more than one child in the family, and family structural changes like separation & divorce. I also specialize in both academic research and clinical work on the role of fathers in the family and issues that fathers face. I’ve been interviewed as an expert by popular publications, including CNN and Wired, and had my research cited in the Blog on Learning and Development and the Child and Family Blog. Outside of work I enjoy the beautiful west coast outdoors, hiking, travel, cooking, trying new food, and music.
