Kathryn Richards, LCSW

Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LCSW 24012

In our work together, you will learn to curb cyclical, negative thinking and instead focus on building healthy relationships with yourself and others. Breaking life-long habits can take time, and that’s what I am here for. We will explore both helpful and unhelpful patterns. You will build and integrate skills and tools that you can put into practice right away. My role in our work is to support you in overcoming your fears and feelings of overwhelm, so that you can strengthen your sense of self and find more ways to experience joy.

My approach

I am proactive, empathic, conversational, and practical. I have nearly twenty years of experience in individual, family and couples therapy. My blend of expertise gives me a unique understanding of the intimate connection between mind and body. I hope to empower my clients with skills and mindful techniques necessary for managing anxiety, depression, and the challenges that accompany significant life transitions.

Why I love this work

I know that it can be hard to identify your strengths when you are struggling, so it will be my job to help you objectively evaluate the ways you can build on already productive skills, and empower you to feel more in control of your choices. I believe that you have what it takes. You deserve to feel connected to yourself and others, and to live a life that feels balanced and joyful. It would be my honor to sit with you in your experience of life and to work together to find new ways to navigate, heal and restore.

What I want for you

My goal is to help you alleviate your symptoms of anxiety and depression and stay connected to what matters. I use a holistic approach to help you create meaningful change so that you can build a fulfilling and productive life for yourself. I find the clients who tend to have the best results working with me are those who are ready for change. Whether you are coming to therapy for support with parenthood, or to tackle symptoms of anxiety or depression, we will work together to find tools that serve you best–whether they are body-based, thought-based, or emotion-based.

My specialties, background, and personal interests

Over the last 19 years, I have worked with individuals, parents/couples and groups in an array of counseling and community mental health settings. I have experience working with a spectrum of diverse clients with respect to gender, race/ethnicity, religion/spirituality, sexual orientation, and ability. As both a licensed clinical social worker and a certified yoga teacher, I have found profound healing possible when fusing traditional behavioral psychotherapy and mindful modalities. I can work with one modality or the other, exclusively, or weave the two together. My default approach is behavioral psychotherapy. From there, I offer opportunities to explore body-awareness and mindfulness exercises. I will always let you know what I am doing, and why, and make sure we are doing the work in therapy that you want to be doing. But if you are curious to learn more, please ask!
