Kara Fagan, LPCC

Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, LPCC9011

My passion and commitment is working with both adolescents and adults struggling with a loss of connection with their authentic selves.

Often times life can feel overwhelming and trying to juggle our personal lives with school, work and family can feel unmanageable thus creating a feeling of being stuck in a rut. I believe that every client is an expert in their own life and progress on the path of finding balance in our lives starts with mindfulness- knowing when we need a break in our routines to slow down and be present.

My approach

My approach tends to be warm, direct, and genuine. I want to develop a safe space where all topics are welcome. I believe the therapeutic relationship is the most important aspect of therapy, and so my objective is always to provide a space for you to feel safe and heard and to feel as though you can be your authentic self within our session. I follow a person centered approach, meaning that I believe my clients should be co-creators in their own paths to healing. I also utilize evidence based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Mindfulness.

Why I love this work

I chose this field of work because I want to empower people to be able to use their voices with confidence and identify what feels important to them. I want my clients to find their authentic selves, learn to trust themselves, and be able to be compassionate and kind to themselves, even when things feel hard and unmanageable. One of the things I have learned in life is that struggling is human, and we all deserve support through it. Our hardest times can breed the ground for some of the greatest change and new perspectives. I have myself learned that sometimes the best help I can get is to be listened to and heard, with appropriate feedback and care.

What I want for you

I want you to feel safe, respected and present in both therapy and your daily life. I truly believe that you are the expert of yourself and my role is to help empower you and to aid you in achieving your goals. My commitment to you is that I will show up every session with an open heart.

My specialties, background, and personal interests

For the last 10 years, I have worked with adolescents and adults who are are feeling stuck and overwhelmed with their daily lives at both the outpatient and residential level of care. I have helped teens, parents and adults with a variety of issues including eating disorders, negative body image, depression and self-esteem challenges. I have received extensive training in evidence based treatment modalities such as DBT, CBT, Mindfulness and ABFT.
