Cassie Robertson, LCSW

Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LCSW74487

I believe each person comes to treatment because they are doing their best, but might need a little extra help solving problems in their lives. We all have an inbuilt tendency towards growth and fulfillment. Although my general approach is more eclectic, I will use more structured treatment if indicated based on your presentation and concern. Populations I am familiar with include children, at-risk teens, veterans with PTSD, and adults in a private healthcare setting. I love treating all types of people, and particularly those who are willing to let themselves change.

My approach

I believe all therapy should be rooted in evidence-based treatment. Each person is unique, so we will work together to see which approach fits best. I have experience in using dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), humanistic, interpersonal and psychodynamic approaches to treat various concerns. I tend to use mindfulness-based treatment and advocate self-compassion in each modality I use.

Why I love this work

I love doing this work because of witnessing the transformative nature of the therapeutic relationship, which is special. I see myself as a fellow traveler on the therapeutic journey with you and beside you. As Irvin Yalom said, “The act of revealing oneself fully to another and still being accepted may be the major vehicle of therapeutic help.”

What I want for you

Viktor Frankl said, “When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.” My ultimate goal for patients is to experience living in the moment, cope healthily with stress, regulate mood and emotions, and have better relationships with others. Your circumstances and emotions do not have to run your life.

My specialties, background, and personal interests

I am originally from Southern CA and began clinical practice in LA. I moved to the Bay Area in 2014. I have experience working mostly in community based mental health settings, but I have also been a Kaiser Permanente clinician for the last two years. I have also lived briefly in Alaska, Thailand and Germany. Yoga and mindfulness in general have been tremendously meaningful in my personal life.
