Steve Vigilante, LPCC

Licensed Professional Clinical Director, LPCC6279

My clients are individuals that have challenges in dealing with the stress, anxiety, and, in some cases, physical symptoms resulting from the difficulty in dealing with everyday life. While I work with a diverse client base, all my clients have one thing in common – a realization that they have an issue they can’t address alone, and a desire to learn how to overcome these issues along with those they will face in the future. Something brought you to this place, to our site and to my page. In seeking a therapist, and making your first appointment, you’re already finding the strength to face your challenges.

My approach

Trust is the foundation of my approach, and it’s important for me to earn your trust. I strive to create an environment that is safe for us to work on the issues troubling you. From a clinical perspective my approach in therapy is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and uses a strong Systems perspective. Meaning we will work in partnership to discover how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are impacting your life, and examine how these factors are woven into the world around you.

Why I love this work

This work allows me to make a real and lasting difference in a person’s life. Helping someone face and overcome challenges provides a sense of fulfillment I didn’t realize in the business world. I view the time we spend together as an investment. One that not only returns benefits to you, but to me. I learn something new from every relationship. It is a privilege to work with people as we address their challenges, and helping them to realize a life that is connected, balanced, and fulfilling.

What I want for you

I want you to become your own therapist. Yes, that’s right. My goal is to work myself out of a job. I want you to apply what we learned in our time together into all aspects of your life. I want you to be able to face future challenges confident in your ability to deal with them.

My specialties, background, and personal interests

I started professional life in advertising, receiving my Bachelor of Science in Marketing from the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland. I understand what it is like to work in an environment that demands long hours, meeting deadlines, and uncompromising excellence. I decided to make a change because I was not fulfilled, and wanted the opportunity to make a positive impact in a different way.

I went back to school receiving my Master of Science in Counseling from the Annette Caldwell Simmons School of Education and Human Development at Southern Methodist University. Since I began my work in mental health, I have had the opportunity to work with people of all ages, in many different settings. I have worked in hospitals, clinics, in the community, and have worked both as a clinician and as a director. My focus is on helping individuals, couples, and families with depression, low self-esteem, anxiety, abuse, crisis, trauma, LGBTQ+, and work related issues. I am thankful to be able to continue my work in private practice. A little bit about me. I’ve been an athlete beginning at the age of 5, lasting through all four years of Division I athletics, and I continue to stay active in different ways. I have even completed multiple endurance events. I also enjoy reading a wide variety of books from the classics, to fantasy and non-fiction. I mention this because I understand how great it can feel to accomplish something, but also know what it is like to struggle and fall short. Working together we can figure out a pragmatic approach to addressing your concerns, and have a little fun along the way.
